Yes, but the (rather philosophical and not very fruitful) point that
Stefan was trying to make is, that only the description of something
(here: the measurement of a distance) requires a unit, and that the
thing being described (here: the distance) doesn't actually have a unit.
Example: The distance between earth and sun can be described either in
meters or in inch.

And yes, in many cases make sense to describe something without having a
unit and things become meaningless without a unit.
