The holiness God desires in us is personal holiness:

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father
is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,
and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
http://biblehub.com/kjv/1_john/5-21.htm
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
These are personal calls. Of course, the enemy of this world, Satan,
always tries to soil the image of true faith, so he entices people to
pervert or twist things so as to do harm, rather than to follow God's
teachings properly. Hence: wars, cults, flesh-focused endeavors
rather than Holy-Spirit-focused, etc.
Jesus is seeking one-on-one personal relationships with people,
of the kind where He changes your heart, and your life, to become
meek, blanket loving, trusting in His teaching, Holy Spirit led, etc,
such that we become fisherman teachers. We reach out with His
teaching to others, but that's as far as it goes. There is no force
involved, only a teaching of the message. Each person makes their
own choice, and God honors their choice. He still sends men and
women like me to help guide people into following Him.
It's not a situation for the born again Christian that they force
their will on others as by bodily means (physically fighting, flesh-
focused, "convert or die'), but rather all things about a born again
Christian's life are to be spirit-focused, inward, loving, helping, growing
personally:
http://www.biblehub.com/kjv/galatians/5-22.htm
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
The devil constantly taints everything to keep people away. He does
things to make it appear outwardly that a pursuit of Jesus Christ
is a stupid idea, so people will see the taint, equate that with "Jesus,"
and conclude: "Nope. Never. That is not for me."
The real Jesus is much different than what has been taught. And all
who press in seeking the whole truth will discover this, and find
eternal salvation for their soul.
It is that one end the devil works so hard to keep people from.
The devil is a murderous hater, so he tries every possible way to trick
and deceive us about God, and Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit, so we
won't be saved. The devil is the worst kind of evil there is.
Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin

For the most part, if you inspire hatred from the world or significant numbers of people, you are doing something wrong. You might feel you are "called" to do something unusual with your life, and people might not understand it or why you live the way you do. But that is not hatred. Look at /real/ (Christian, for simplicity) religious leaders such as priests or missionaries. If a priest or minister inspires hatred, he or she is a total failure at their job. No one persuades another person to join their religion by making people hate them - even Jehovah's Witnesses provoke irritation rather than hatred. Of course if you contact enough people, there will always be the odd person who hates you, no matter what your beliefs are. But that is /their/ problem, not yours. However, if there is a pattern in it, and you find that many people hate you, it is /your/ problem. It is not because you have faith, or because others are sinners, or because of the devil - it is because of /you/. And people like Rick, or the Westpro Baptist "Church", who actively seek out a masochistic martyr role, are demonstrating serious social or psychological problems rather than any sort of "sainthood". It is a kind of addiction or paranoia, and it is self-reenforcing.

That depends very much upon who those people are. You can pick virtually any racial, national, ethnic or religious group you wish, and find "significant numbers of people" who hate members of that group. That's true, regardless of whether members of that group are doing anything wrong.

And I think we are talking more individual hatred here, rather than more blanket group hatred. It is also very complicated to try to define "hatred", and how much it is directed against a person or just something he or she does. (I certainly do not hate Rick, but I strongly dislike his "holier than thou" nonsense.) My point was that there is absolutely nothing heroic, virtuous or saintly in inspiring people to hate you or to hate something you do. Christians are told by the Bible to remain true to their faiths even if people hate them for it, which is fair enough. But they are /not/ told that this hatred is a sign that they are doing the right thing - in reality, it is a sign that they are not being successful at "spreading the word".

You are dead wrong, David. Literally.
http://biblehub.com/kjv/matthew/10-22.htm
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that
endureth to the end shall be saved.
http://biblehub.com/kjv/mark/13-13.htm
13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that
shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
http://biblehub.com/kjv/matthew/24-9.htm
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you:
and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
-----
Jesus Christ testifies against sin, and all who are perishing in sin are
testified against by His Life and Death. I have received Jesus Christ as
my Lord /AND SAVIOR/, and I now bear His Spirit, am of Him, and serve Him
in this world.
Just as you hate the Lord Jesus Christ, that you have sin, that you must
be forgiven for your sin to have eternal life, you also hate me because I
testify the same.
It doesn't have to be that way. Jesus will save everyone who comes to
Him. Even a sinner like me, David. Even a sinner like you.

And resurrection. And He teaches additionally:

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because
ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth you.
Jesus has saved us from the world, so that we are no longer perishing with
the world. We testify unto Jesus, who testifies unto the Life that is in
Him alone, that ONLY by His blood are we saved.
That is why the world hates us ... because they are perishing, and He has
saved us unto life eternal.

Look, this is a /warning/ - not a /command/. You are supposed to keep your faith even if you are hated. You are not being commanded to make people hate you so that you will be saved! I know it is hard to apply logic to supernatural beliefs, but you have got this ass-backwards.

It is the gospel message itself that people hate, David. When believers step up and teach the gospel message, they are hated by those who don't believe because the gospel message is offensive to our flesh. The gospel says we are not in control, but our flesh wants to be in control of all things. The gospel teaches we must humble ourself before God, but our flesh wants to be God and make its own way. No matter how delicately the message is brought forth, when the reality of the significant need of salvation for all people manifests itself in a believer, and they then realize the weight of it and go forward to speak to be people from the authority the Lord gives them in being bold for the faith, it will come across to non-believers as offensive. All who are perishing will be offended, no matter how delicately the believer puts it. Always, and without exception. It is the way of spiritual things thrust upon a natural understanding. No, most people don't care a whit for whatever message happens to be written in some old book, unless they are already part of that religion (in which case it seems really important to them). What people hate is when someone goes on and on about the same thing endlessly, with the absurd belief in proof by repetition. They hate sanctimonious holier than thou attitudes. They hate being told that they are evil, possessed by the devil, or simply condemned to hell for something that an imaginary person did thousands of years ago. They hate being told that this condemnation for other people's mistakes is all by a "loving" and "just" god who demands our worship for the privilege of escaping eternal punishment for other people being caught in his entrapment. When this goes on long enough, people begin to hate the /person/ spewing this irritating nonsense. And of course, /real/ Christians - people who understand Jesus' message of /love/, /compassion/, /empathy/ and not just selected out-of-context and out-of-scale Biblical passages about hell, damnation, and hatred - they also hate such preaching and screeching because it gives Christianity and Christians a bad name, and chases potential converts away from their faith. > When believers step up and teach the gospel message, they are hated by > those who don't believe because the gospel message is offensive to our > flesh. I've done enough outreach and evangelism in my life to come to know through experience that people hate the message when they first hear it. There are evil spirits all non-believers have let into their life by their sinful choices which are there influencing the emotional reaction directly, causing the inner hatred and negative response to arise. Most will just dismiss the evangelist with a rude comment or exhale/grunt. But some become hostile and begin name calling, using profanity, and so on. Others get right up in your face within inches, speaking loud or quiet, but doing it to be intimidating or threatening. It is the message, David. And many people will also hate when it repeats. But their hatred of the repeating message is not just because it is repeating, but is more foundational to what it says. ----- You haven't listened to the message yet, David. It's why it repeats. :-) There's a famous joke about a new pastor preaching the same sermon on repentance week after week after week. A member of the congregation then asked him, "Pastor, I know you're new here, but why do you keep teaching us the same message of repentance week after week after week?" To which the pastor replied, "Once you learn that message, and begin to apply it properly to your life, then we'll move on." Best regards, Rick C. Hodgin

Have you ever read about Noah's Ark? Noah was called by God to build an
ark because God had said He would flood the entire world. It took Noah
100 years to build the ark. He told people. Warned them. The Bible
records he was a preacher of righteousness (which is probably a large
part of why God chose Him).
The Bible records:
http://biblehub.com/kjv/matthew/24.htm
37 But as the days of [Noah] were, so shall also the coming of the
Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating
and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that
[Noah] entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away;...
These things happened despite the 100 year warning of Noah. People would
have seen him building this boat. Talked about it. It had never rained
on the Earth at that time, so it would've been a really remarkable thing
that drew people's attention. He would've witnessed to thousands, who
would've gone back and told other thousands, and so on.
Jesus teaches us in Matthew 24 that during this time people were marrying
and giving in marriage, some of the happiest, most joyful occasions in
people's lives. And back then, it would've been the main event in a new
couple's life, as they would've married for life.
So these were people with families. Happy in their daily affairs. Being
willing to share socially, put on engagements, bring gifts, receive gifts,
etc. All of the joys of life, and yet ... they were destroyed.
-----
What does Jesus warn us about these end times? That verse above continues
and has a trailing part:
39 ... so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
You are hearing these warnings of the need to be forgive of your sin, lest
you enter into Hell upon your death. You are hearing these warnings that
salvation is completely free, that all you have to do is acknowledge that
you are a sinner, repent of your sins, ask forgiveness for them, and you
will pass from death to life in that selfsame moment.
You've heard these things. You then have the opportunity to receive them.
If you do, you will enter in to eternal life. If you do not, the sentence
of death remains upon you and you remain the walking dead, alive in the
body, but not spiritually, such that when you die you will enter in to
your permanent place: Hell, tormented in flames forever.
It's your choice, Melzzzzz. Make it a good one. My advice: Choose life.
Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin
