According to the C standard, sizeof is an operator (6.5.3.4).
Its operand is either an expression or a parenthesized type name.

In case of the type name, the parentheses are not part of the sizeof
operator (to make it look like a function), they are part of the
operand (to make it look like a parenthesized type name).

So you say. The standard says it's an operator, not a built-in
function.  What do kernels have to do with this? Which kernel tries
to standardize odd parsing rules?

And by the way, do you think using street language helps to make
your point?
