Most C compilers are not conforming by default, and require some added
options to make them (attempt to) conform to (some version of) the
standard.
If that option requires modifying your source code, then the compiler is
not conforming at all. But there's *probably* some way to get MSVC to
attempt to conform (supporting scanf() et al) without modifying your
source code. I don't happen to know how to do that.
