You say adding an OAUTH2 account in Thunderbird is scary, but you did it -- at least twice. Or deleting Tbird's password entry (which has the OAUTH2 token) to negotiate for a new OAUTH2 token is scary, but you have to do that every time you add an OAUTH2 account into Tbird, and deleting the old Gmail account's password in Tbird won't be any worse than it is now where you cannot login to your old Gmail account with Tbird. Saving an image backup before making changes, making the changes, and restoring from the backup must be scary, too, despite that is how you often resolve problems, but provide an escape route to get back to where you were in case whatever you did make the problem worse. Creating a new Gmail account was not necessary. You obviously *DID* create a new Gmail account in Tbird, so that wasn't so scary after all, but you pointed it at a new Gmail account instead of your old one. Okay, going with your "solution" of creating a new Gmail account and adding it to Tbird (instead of creating a new account in Tbird that points to your old Gmail account), remember that Gmail requires you login to an account; else, they will suspend an idle account, and eventually delete it (although they never delete the username to permit later reuse). Forwarding from your old Gmail account is not logging into it. Since your e-mail client is no longer logging into your old Gmail account, or it cannot since you won't repair it, your remaining option is to occasionally use their webmail app to login. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/12418290?hl=en 2 years inactive (you not logging in via client or webmail) is a long time, but also more than long enough for you to forget to get your e-mail client to login, or use their webmail app. You might want to set a yearly reminder in Tbird to log into your old Gmail account.
