https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20 I never said don't download it from Microsoft..just that they want over a hundred of dollars. Right. Seems M$ doesn't really care that we walk up with our own Key as long as its a legit key. The media is the same, the key determines what features etc. you get. Doing that was actually pretty smart. :o) On 6/7/2020 7:33 AM, Dana Haywood wrote: > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20 > > I never said don't download it from Microsoft..just that they want over > a hundred of dollars. Make sure the jerk who "sold" you that mobo didn't actually remove any money from your account. With things the way they are now with the virus, you’d think that stores like Walmart would be doing their absolute BEST to make sure they are reliable at the very least. It's their only way of making any sales at all. Well that was Walmart.com and they didn't get any money. The next company, having delivered the mobo yesterday, did get paid. I hadn't planned to spend that much on just the motherboard, but as usual, real life stepped in and gently inserted the monkey wrench into the spinning cogs. CRUNCH WHOA! With the CPU already here, finding a real motherboard to work with it that is really available was the catch. Found it, for $144.00 over its market entry price one year ago. It was $199.99 back then it seems. OR so the guy reviewing it said on YouTube. It OK,I HAVE it right here, safe and sound! I am a happy camper now :D On 6/9/2020 1:55 PM, Stephen wrote: > Make sure the jerk who "sold" you that mobo didn't actually remove any > money from your account. > With things the way they are now with the virus, you’d think that stores > like Walmart would be doing their absolute BEST to make sure they are > reliable at the very least. BTW, I've also noticed on the NVidia site that even their highest quality boards are sold as great GAMING tools and the benchmarks are all geared to games and the number of fps they can do. I once asked them why they do that because I want a board for serious superior image production, not gaming. They just said it's the same thing and left it at that. :o/ I think you have to just ignore their sales pitch and go for one that will meet you own specifications. Rich kids who do nothing but play games all day must be where they make the most money so they'll just keep selling them that way. Well, Stephen, think about it. What is the most important thing for a gaming rig? FPS. Going 50-60 FPS is ideal for most games, and it becomes more challenging when trying to render more complicated geometry, textures, render engines like IRay, etc. Before GPU rendering became a thing, we had to rely on Memory and CPU. Now, GPU rendering is a thing, so the more it can handle geometry, textures, material (different than textures apparently), light, and whatever else I see when IRay goes off, the better it performs. Even without GPU rendering, we relied on fast processors and high amounts of RAM. The same is true with a gaming rig. So like I said earlier, A Gaming Rig and Image Producing one are not that different. Now for servers, yea, those have different requirements, but gaming and rendering system generally align more or less. :) On 6/9/2020 12:09 PM, Stephen wrote: > BTW, I've also noticed on the NVidia site that even their highest > quality boards are sold as great GAMING tools and the benchmarks are all > geared to games and the number of fps they can do. For me, when I'm rendering animations, fps DOES make a difference but when I'm working on a 'static' image, I mostly care about achieving something as close to photorealism as I can get. I know that graphics RAM and speed are used for both games and rendering still images. I guess it's just their marketing scheme that bugs me. It makes me want to scream, "I'm not goofing off playing games! I'm an old man trying to do some serious artwork here!!" :o) That is - unless I AM goofing off and paying a game of course. <LOL>!! As a consumer, who do you think NVidia going to market to? Hobbyist people with Daz Studio or Poser ..or to people who think it is their life mission to have the highest kill count in whatever game ;) To achieve photoreal, GPU is needed because we saw the limit of what the CPU capable of..so having a rig that capable of performance for game also applies to static images as well :P) On 6/9/2020 05:06 PM, Stephen wrote: > For me, when I'm rendering animations, fps DOES make a difference but > when I'm working on a 'static' image, I mostly care about achieving > something as close to photorealism as I can get. > I know that graphics RAM and speed are used for both games and rendering > still images. They will be grubbing for the headcount, of course. How many heads are doing this very thin slice of the 3D Graphics *HOME* segment, as opposed to how many GAMERS are squabbing over scarfing up the latest bestest graphics board? The gamers win that one hands down. Numbers win every time. Gotta make a living! I do static images because its what my rig can handle without burning up. Literally. My poor ol Core Duo Quadcore has been left sitting in the dust! We'll see how 8 cores/16 threads hold up in todays world :P On 6/9/2020 7:16 PM, Dana Haywood wrote: > As a consumer, who do you think NVidia going to market to? The thing is that 4 cores with that Intel Core Duo and 8 cores are not really fair comparison. :) On 6/9/2020 09:13 PM, McGrandpa wrote: > They will be grubbing for the headcount, of course. BTW-I have my ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus (WiFi) socket AM4 motherboard right here now. I don't care how many he has in stock! LOL! McG.
