A friend had an Apple II in the same time that I was using CP/M. The BDS C
subset compiler for CP/M came out in '79. MicrosSoft produced the Z80-
Softcard so you could run CP/M on an Apple II but you weren't out of the
woods yet since the Apple keyboard was missing a few things like [, ],
{, }, and ~ iirc so you had to upgrade the keyboard too.
The same friend jumped on the Windows 1.0 bandwagon, which was a very
painful experience. Support was limited to the MSDN on CompuServe. The
work I was doing was on straight DOS so I skipped the infancy of Windows
until I bought a Compaq Concerto in '93 which came with a 3.1 variant.
The Concerto is another story. So close...

I don't think it lasted a year in the Compaq lineup.
