For a developer it was the future even if you had to wait seven years for 
the future to arrive. I had better things to do in the here and now. I had 
some catching up to do with windows 3,1 and chose the wrong horse in the 
race -- Borland's OWL.  I'm not fond of MFC but part of that was the 
cluster C++ turned into. After writing a series of 'Programming Windows 
xxx" books that used C and the Windows API, Charles Petzhold broke out the 
champagne when C# came along and said MS finally did it right.

Gazing into crystal balls is part of a developer's job. "Is this the 
future or is it going to be buried in 5 years?"
