It sounds like you were trying to run the old version of iPhoto (perhaps
iPhoto 2 from OS X 10.3) in OS X 10.5 - without updating iPhoto. You
can't expect old software to continue working indefinitely while
simultaneously upgrading the operating system. OS X 10.5 was released
four years after 10.3; and there were significant enough changes that an
update to iPhoto was required. The error message you referenced above
also told you you'd need to update iPhoto to a later version that was
supported in Leopard. All you needed to do was upgrade to iPhoto 8
(part of iLife '09) as instructed.

You were trying to install a version of Garage Band that wasn't
supported in that version of OS X. What version OS X were you running?
What version of Garage Band were you trying to install? Where did you
get that installer? Why didn't you install the version that was
supported instead?

It almost sounds like you tried to install that very same version of
Garage Band on the newer Mac, right? Why not get the proper version? All
you have to do is install the version supported by the version of OS X
you are running.

Not really, no. What version OS X are you running right now? All you
need to do is get the version of Garage Band that runs on it rather than
trying to install some old version. Simple.
