Good for you. I have QuickTime X (10.4). QuickTime X does not
support the QuickTime VR (.qtvr) format, nor does it support MIDI, but
QuickTime Player 7 (7.6.6) does.

So, if you want your interactive CD to play on your Darth Vader Mac
Pro running recent versions of OS X, try installing QTP7. QTPX isn't
going to cut it.

Once you've install QuickTime Player 7, select to icon of the file
which gives you the error you've quoted, select Get Info from the File
Menu or use ⌘-I and click the 'Open with' drop-down menu. If you do
not see QuickTime Player 7 listed, select 'Other …' and navigate to
QuickTime Player 7 in /Applications/Utilities/. Select it. If you
have other QTVR files laying about, you may want to consider using the
'Change All …' option.
Personally, I see the choice of QTVR for a disc published in 2014 to
be an odd one, as the underlying QTKit framework it requires was
deprecated in 2011, with the introduction of OS X 10.7 (Lion).
