If the later versions of Safari use OS features that aren't available in older versions of the OS, then the newer v. of Safari cannot be installed (and work). Other browsers are usually later to begin using new OS features (if published) so don't have those dependencies. Personally I'm not much of a Safari user - Chrome does fine.
