Doesn't FreeBSD also use static nodes?  I don't know yet because
I have not researched.

But the thing about udev (eudev) is that it should be totally
optional but it is not, and this is a serious design flaw.

Consider the similar management service called avahi.  The
purpose of avahi is to determine what is on the local network,
but some people (imagine that!) actually already know what is
on their local network.  Therefore, such people can opt out
of using avahi.  Wow!  How's that for a concept!

Udev (eudev) should be similarly optional but it's not and
this is a serious design failure.

Such a serious design flaw cannot be so easily dismissed by
simply saying that one has to "move forward" or "keep up
with the times."  A flaw is not progress.
