I don't know yet because I have not researched. But the thing about udev (eudev) is that it should be totally optional but it is not, and this is a serious design flaw. Consider the similar management service called avahi. The purpose of avahi is to determine what is on the local network, but some people (imagine that!) actually already know what is on their local network. Therefore, such people can opt out of using avahi. Wow! How's that for a concept! Udev (eudev) should be similarly optional but it's not and this is a serious design failure. Such a serious design flaw cannot be so easily dismissed by simply saying that one has to "move forward" or "keep up with the times." A flaw is not progress.
