I have a bunch of dumb winders users ..... And the auditors are really keen on making sure nobody sees anything they shouldn't. While it CAN be done with pure SAMBA pretty decently I've had to use proper NAS systems at this point to handle the multitude of finer details AND just to manage the whole mess conveniently. Everybody keeps wanting MORE little secret hidey-holes for their "special" files too and I've just stopped even arguing with them ...... Real World, Real Humans ... sucks sometimes ......... As said, for a single-user/"home" setup then NFS is perfectly good and, within its sphere, "easier" and thus perhaps "better".
