Linux is free and handles that side of it really well. I tend to use and like MacOS. While I do not use it much now, I used to also use Linux and Windows. Even ran Linux labs in schools. It worked well for the purposes we had -- working with the donated hardware and bringing life back to it. Also helped students who did not have other options -- we handed out Linux media. It ran the bell system at one school. All sorts of uses, and that was not even high end computing were Linux also is a great choice. Use what you like. Simple as that. Maybe my perspective comes from having started using Macs, DOS, and Unix all on the same day (though I had used Apple IIe systems before that). I have less of a "home" OS than most people (though macOS is more my home now). -- It's impossible for someone who is at war with themselves to be at peace with you.
