IIRC what I proposed, the global allocation would treat the available registers as stack - the leaf procedures would start with the end of the stack, and mark the registers they use as well as the registers they use for parameter passing. Each word would either have a wrapper for EXECUTE (with normalized stack), or is compiled twice - with the typical on-demand approach, i.e. if you EXECUTE it first time, it compiles the normalized stack version, if you COMPILE, it the first time, it compiles the register-parameter-passing version. The question however is if that is really a good idea, or if inlining provides so much more opportunities for optimization.
