I think the reason nobody suggested that before is that the details of your 
various posts led us to assume you did not have VB6, at least that's what I 
assumed myself. I still don't know why Win7 64 bit caused your specific 
hiccup with regards to the VB5 runtime though, because simply including it 
in the same folder as a VB5 compiled exe works for me on my own (or rather 
my wife's!) Win7 64 bit machine which does not have msvbvm50.dll anywhere on 
the machine and which has no references to it in the Registry. Still, that's 
Windoze for you ;-) The only time it failed is when I deliberately tried to 
run the VB5 compiled exe from within the same batch file that copied the VB5 
runtime to the system folder, to simulate what I think you were yourself 
doing at one time. But it wasn't Windoze which caused that failure because 
the copy succeeded and it was Norton's quite aggressive Sonar protection 
that pulled the plug in that case.
