Hey - he asked for ways this can happen.  This is a way it can and has
happened to me.  Not grasping at straws - lots of us have lost hard
drives.

Well, if iTunes would back my music up from my iPhone, I could have
multiple backups easily.  As it is, if the music is on my computer
_and_ on my iDevice, why should I need a _third_ backup?  (Answer:
because iTunes backups work in a screwy way, and won't backup your
music.)

It would be my second biggest concern.  My biggest concern would be my
photos, which are irreplaceable.  All the rest of my data (beside
music and photos) is small and is backed up in multiple places.  The
music and photos are harder to backup.

My music is tedious to replace (ripping CDs), but at least _can_ be replaced.

Not all.  For example, I listen to This American Life.  You can only
download the most recent podcast, but sometimes I don't get around to
listening to it for several weeks.
