In Windows 10 (and 11 and perhaps even earlier), you see little thumbnail-like windows of the multiple instances if you hover over the icon on the Taskbar. So instead of tiny instances on the Taskbar, you see much bigger/clearer instances above the Taskbar. For example, I have often multiple instances of the 'Command Prompt' window open and I just hover over the icon on the Taskbar to see which instances I have and then click on the little window of the desired one.
