As Java Jive mentions, this is quite a common problem, so it's strange
that you've not encountered it before.

Anyway, I have an Epson Perfection V30 scanner and encounter the
problem with the EPSON Scan software if I'm not doing things the right
way.

Recently, after the 24H2 update, I've scanned some 40-50 pages, so I
know it still *can* work correctly in 24H2.

What to do if you encounter the "Cannot communicate with the scanner
... " error: Exit from the 'EPSON Scan' program, turn the power of the
scanner off, turn it back on and only *then* restart the 'EPSON Scan'
program.

So scanner must be on *before* you start the 'EPSON Scan' program. If
not, you have to perform the above procedure.

I've also experienced that I get the error if the computer (I have a
laptop) goes to sleep while the 'EPSON Scan' program was still running.
I think the laptop will remove power from the USB-port during sleep and
when the laptop resumes, the USB-port is in a wrong state (still
unpowered?) and hence the 'EPSON Scan' program gives the error.

There is a Device Manager setting to keep the USB-port powered during
sleep, but it is a bit hard to determine which port on which USB hub is
the one being used for the scanner. The UsbTreeView program mentioned by
Paul can help you with that. (Basically UsbTreeView gives you the Hub
number and Port number on that hub, which is used for the scanner and
then you can look up that Port_#00PP.Hub_#00HH number on the 'General'
tab of the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' tree in Device Manager.
The power setting is on the 'Power Management' tab.)

  Hope this helps.
