Mit dem Netscape 4 hast du HTML-Dokumente auf deinem 800x600 CRT angezeigt (und darüber geflucht, dass man dafür doch bitteschön keine 64 MB brauchen möge). An optischen Effekten musste vertikales Scrollen und Links, die beim Anklicken grün werden, genügen. In dem heutigen Browser lässt du Applikationen in FullHD oder höher laufen, mit Subpixelrendering und GPU-unterstützten Überblend-Effekten. Allein schon der Framebuffer ist Faktor 4 größer. In der Tat ist es eine berechtigte Frage, ob man immer, wenn man eigentlich nur ein HTML-Dokument ansehen will, eine Applikations-Engine mitlaufen lassen muss, die eine x86-VM, in der ein Windows 2000 läuft, in dem ein Browser läuft <https://bellard.org/jslinux/>, laufen lassen kann. Aber ein wenig mehr als der Netscape 4 kann ein heutiger Browser dann doch. Der Netscape 4 hat als Applikations-Engine eben Java gestartet... Stefan
