Das hat mMn weniger mit "altem UNIX" vs "modernem Linux" zu tun als vielmehr damit, dass zu Zeiten von "altem UNIX" RAM halt kostbar war, egal welche Software drauf lief. Linux wurde erst um die 2000 einigermassen brauchbar, da musste man mit RAM schon nicht mehr soo sparsam sein.
