I recall a tale about a musician (Stefan Grapelli?) who, as some artists 
are, was completely clueless about cars.  He was persuaded to buy one and 
when it ran out of fuel thought that "Well it was fun, but it didn't last 
very long".  He didn't realise he had to fill the thing up.

A very distinctive sound.  IIRC he had a regular spot on a BBC radio
chat morning chat show when I was young; he and a few others would
basically have a jam sessionn at intervals throughout the show.
