On my MacBook Pro with my CenturyLink SlowSL (1.5) downloading and
installing took about 10 hours total. First is dwnloading Mavericks and
then all the application updates that follow. Hopefully the new
Mavericks download is for 10.9.1 right off the bat, otherwise you will
have to update from 10.9.0 to 10.9.1.

IMHO Apple's download-only approach sucks. Not all of their customers
have access to broadband with enough speed to make this sort of thing
reasonable. Hell, the US is one of the worst of the developed countries
when it comes to broadband speed while providers charge some of the
highest prices. We're Number One (at paying more for less).
