I run Slackware.  I truly love it, but like so many longtime Linux
distros, it is DRM'd.  IOW, no decss capability here.  Fear of the
copyright cartels has snipped its multimedia balls.  This is the trend
in long-lived distros not wanting to run afoul of the copyright sharks
that prowl the internet.

My ancient Sony Trinitron (CRT) TV finally went belly up and I now
have no way to watch the Netflix DVDs I'm subscribed to.  What to do.
My DVD player still works, but is too old to have any HDMI or other
current connections and my new 24" Acer flat panel monitor has no old
interfaces.  Again, what to do?  Tried installing a Slack pkg of VLC, but
gave up after 60+ pkgs and another 20-30 to go.  Screw that.  

Fortunately, there are some pirates afoot and they DO have the balls
and they do deliver.  The one I found is LiMP 2.5.  A mere 120M liveCD
and has all that decss stuff.  Includes xine and mplayer.  I've found
xine to me the better player, though they both work.  I notice LiMP
2.5 hasn't been updated since 2007.  Why?  Fear of Sharks?  Perhaps,
but what they left works.  My old P4 mobo with a mere .87G RAM works
damn good if the disc is in good shape.  Even the menu options work by
way of mouse clicks.  I'm amazed.  Burn it with K3B and beat the
sharks.

Dwnld the 2.5 zip file and unzip the iso and burn to DVD.  The 1.7 version does NOT
work.  Ignore it.

NO!! ....I'm not ripping or copying.  Jes happy to be able to view the
DVDs I pay to watch on my superior computer monitor.  (BTW, much to my
surprise, the monitor aspect ratio works perfectly all by itself)  ;)
