Warum ist das Unsinn? Wo habe ich geschrieben, man solle kein
Backup haben? Was unterstellst Du mir hier für einen Unsinn?

Hier wurde von mehreren Leuten gepredigt, ein kurzes Leben
von SSDs sei völlig okay, weil man die eh nach wenigen Jahre
austausche und wegwerfe oder weil man ja ruhig immer wieder
ein Backup einspielen könne.

Ich mache Backups, um sie möglichst *nie* verwenden zu müssen.
Backups sind scheiße, und das Einspielen ist total verschwendete
Lebenszeit. Ich möchte das möglichst nie machen müssen.

PCs halten heutzutage echt lange, sogar sehr lange. Die meisten
Leute müssen da nichts alle paar Jahre austauschen. Egal ob
privat oder beruflich. Und der Storage soll gefälligst halten.
HDDs tun das grundsätzlich. SSDs nicht. Prinzipbedingtes Problem.

Dass man Pech haben kann und irgendwas fällt aus, spielt keine
Rolle dabei, weil das sowieso immer passieren kann. Bei HDDs habe
ich aber gute Chancen, dass sie auch große Datenmengen mühelos
viele Jahre überstehen, bei SSDs ist das praktisch ausgeschlossen,
zumal manche Hersteller sogar hardcoded Limits verwenden, selbst
wenn die SSD noch sehr viel mehr vertragen würde. Wegwerfen und
neu kaufen.

Gefällt mir nicht. Ausgerechnet jetzt, wo zumindest stinknormale
Büro-PCs sich seit Jahren praktisch kaum noch weiterentwickeln.
Plötzlich steckt da wieder was drin, was eher kurzlebig ist.

Ich find's nervig. Ich bin eigentlich froh, dass PCs inzwischen
viel länger "gut" sind, und gerade weil ich auch nicht alle paar
Jahre die SSD wechseln will, achte ich halt drauf, dass dort nicht
übermäßig viel geschrieben wird. Allerdings gibt es immer wieder
Software, die einem manchmal einen Strich die Rechnung macht,
ohne dass man es auf den ersten Blick überhaupt ahnt. Firefox
war ohne spezielle Konfiguration mal so ein Kandidat.

Das klingt zwar zunächst viel, was SSDs abkönnen, und das reicht
eigentlich auch für lange Zeit, aber die Rechnung kann kippen,
wenn es Software gibt, die im Hintergrund konstant Stress erzeugt.
Und das spürt man ohne Monitoring oft nicht, weil eine SSD sowas
performancemäßig mühelos wegsteckt. Aber sie leidet still...

SSDs haben leider Limits, die real durchaus erreicht werden
können. Nicht immer bewusst, sondern wie gesagt auch unbemerkt.
Das sind nicht unbedingt utopische Datenmengen, wo SSDs straucheln.
