Okay, I don't remember that one, but I do remember an "end of the world" story from, I think, the 1950s in _Galaxy._ Newspapers all over the lot, with gigantic headlines, THIS IS THE DAY THE WORLD ENDS. Final paragraphs, someone listening to the radio, "He made it! All the way to Mars and back, on schedule!" Cheering, hugging and kissing, because this was the day the world ended.
