No. Like many other processor it uses the opcodes to provoke an exception, meaning that if you want overflow check with special instructions, you have caught the overflow signal and have a routine that could give some information like the line and file of the fault. The signal points to an encoded information about the operation that was being executed at the point of failure. What to do? 1) Restart. A prespecified restart point cleans up what it is possible to cleanup, maybe logs the incident, and goes on. 2) Rewind the stack until a prespecified catch. This would execute a list of operations that should be part of the cleanup. This can be avoided if software uses global memory pools for each restartable module. Instead of executing all those free(suchAndsuch) we just reset the memory pool and declare all memory as unwritten. 3) The default: crash. A crash is a good starting point for getting bugs out. If you want to check for overflows, any overflow should crash.
