This talks about a default-manager app that you can *add* to Android:

Maybe you can *add* the feature to Android 2?
Did you try the Default App Manager Lite, by Appiator app yet?

Dunno if it will work - but it might add the capability you need.
Certainly I've used apps to add capabilities to Android that the stock oS
didn't have (e.g., app ops manager, app redirect, app back up and restore,
etc.).

Try it out, and let us know if it works for you.

I care about *all* operating systems.

The users are the same on all operating systems, with the one addition that
a specific set of iOS users are a strange lot that is unique to iOS forums
and not found elsewhere.

The rest of the iOS users are the same as any other technical user - but
that one set is a strange bunch indeed.
