It's so easy that you're gonna be embarrassed! :) I'm on Android 4.3 on a Samsung Galaxy S3. I go to the Android "Options > More > Application Manager" and then I hit the hard menu (hamburger) button, and up pops a menu to "Reset app preferences". Here is a screenshot for you that I just bluetoothed over to my PC. http://i.cubeupload.com/CjPxuS.gif >> 2. Then you can set any specific file association, or leave it at the >> default. > > Again I must ask: how? (Cuz I haven't found out how o my own.) Ummm... it's so easy it's hard to describe because it just happens. For example, after I reset the app preferences above, the very next time I want to open (for edit or read) any file, Android will *ask* me (just like all other modern operating systems) what app I want to use. For example, I navigated with ES File Explorer to my call recording folder, which has *.wav files in it, and tapped on an arbitrary *.wav file. Up popped the following form asking me what installed program I want to use to listen to that *.wav file (also allowing me to set it as the default). - ES Chromecast Player - ES Media Player - Google Play Music - Sound player - VLC Here is a screenshot of that action that I just bluetoothed over to my PC: http://i.cubeupload.com/Y3XvcU.gif >> On iOS, I don't think you have any choice. > > I'm not concerned with iOS. I have no product running iOS. I have most operating systems, so I *am* concerned, especially since the iOS guys are kooks who think they're *safer* because Apple Marketing told them that (and they believed it). > Just tell me how I can get my Android to offer "open with Kindle for > Android" as an option when I try to run a .mobi or an .azw file, and I'll > be forever in your debt :-) . Well, I don't have a *mobi or a *.azw file, but, as a test, I created one of each using ES File Explorer on my external SD card. When I clicked on each, it simply said "Sorry, no application available", which makes sense because I don't even know what a mobi or azw file is. http://i.cubeupload.com/nDQXfR.gif However, I then made a file "foo.amr" on my external SD card, and when I clicked on it, it asked me what I wanted to use to open the file. http://i.cubeupload.com/igKS08.gif So, had I an application that knew what a mobi or azw file, it would have done the same for me. It's that easy. > (As things stand, I must copy the .mobi or the .azw from the external > microSD card into a special "kindle" directory within the very cramped area > that the phone glibly refers to as its "Internal phone storage", and then > hope that the Kindle for Android app spots that new file when it's reopened > and kindly offers to let me read it. But that's a kludge!) I can't imagine why the *directory* makes any difference. Doesn't Android key off of the filename extension, just like Windows does? BTW, if you *must* copy files to a certain folder, I would recommend the best freeware file redirecter. It automagically moves files based on almost any criteria, but one of them can be the file name extension. BTW, be careful looking for the best redirect file organizer since *lots* of them stink. This is the best, bar none: Redirect File Organizer by Xavier Tobin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tobino.redirectsfree
