Jay, Newton's theory doesn't assume all the mass is in the center of the
object. It is a mathematically proven theorem that the mass of a
spherically symmetric body behaves EXACTLY LIKE a body where all the
mass is concentrated at the center. It will make absolutely no
difference in Newtonian gravity whether you approach close to the
surface of this distributed body (where the surface is at radius R) or
whether you are at a distance R from a point mass at the center. None,
nada, zip.

The ONLY correction to be applied to the sun is the corrections for it
not being spherically symmetric. Those corrections are documented and
accounted for already.
