Exactly, John. I do software development. Part of my work is to test normal, unusual and error conditions of all sorts to be sure the system behaves as designed/expected, using simulated data and events. We explicitly try to test "edge cases", often the more extreme ones. Would you not trust the data on your PC because it happened to have software I wrote and tested with fake test input? I worked on fire department dispatch code. We had several tests, including what we jokingly called "burn the city down" tests. Does that put the validity of an emergency fire department call in doubt because we ran a make believe disaster scenario on the dispatch system?
