No, that is not the entire point. The primary point is to be able to 
claim a better understanding of how nature works.

Certainty is not a feature of science. The lack of certainty is not 
something to be held up as a failure.

"Function" as defined in mathematics, and "function" in the context of 
practical usage, are two completely different semantic meanings.
