The change in length of the arms due to the oscillation is about the 
size of the proton.

The energy release of the waves was 5.3E+47 joules, which is about what 
you would get by converting ALL of the mass of three average stars to 
energy -- an enormous amount. Even more impressive is that the peak 
power output was (briefly) 3.6E+49 watts, which is more than the total 
fusion output of all the stars in the visible universe combined.
