They barely know what year it is so I wouldn't expect them to understand
what a filesystem is.

Most people are just happy that they were able to figure out how to
format an external drive. What filesystem it was formatted _to_ is a
mystery to them. Clearly, I would rather that the users of technology
have a lot more interest and understanding not only of _what_ they are
doing but what technology they chose but it seems that most of humanity
today is barely able to match their socks every morning.

I think most people would appreciate it if he was at least honest and
admitted that he doesn't use Linux but believes in advocating it anyway.
Nobody believes that he is a Linux user either way.
