But higher education itself, is not. I'm curious then. Here in Quebec at least, tuition to our university is about $2,000 (including books) per semester. Its affordability (even the internationally-reknowned schools like McGill University) means that a lot of people apply and that the best are chosen but that a lot of lesser students get schooling as well. As far as I know, the highest tuition you will pay here in Canada in general is about $8,000 per semester. Does ANY university in the University cost $8,000 or less? If not, tell yourself the following: the people who will get higher education are either already rich (educated parents make more money and breed educated children most of the time), the best of their class (free scholarships) or saved for it since birth (smart parents who probably taught the kids the value of a good education). As such, we shouldn't be surprised that they do so well since those who wouldn't have been weeded out. I'm just happy that I lived in Montreal where I didn't have to pay ridiculous fees to get a University education. Let's leave it at that. I met a lot of Americans during my stay there and they admitted that they came to my university because of its reputation but mostly because of its affordability. Well tell yourself the following. GMOs are basically seed which suddenly have parents on them. They are, at their base, unethical according to people like Wretched Stallman. I'm actually on his side for this matter because I believe that farmers should be allowed to save seeds for the next year and GMOs don't allow them to do that. The way that they work is that the properties of another seed, resistant to certain insects, are forced into the seed you are creating. As such, they are essentially Frankenstein creations. However, they still require proprietary (oil-based) fertilizers provided by the company creating the GMO seed and are generally grown with the use of pesticides like glyphosate. Glyphosate has already been linked (when a person is exposed in small quantities) to kidney and liver damage <http://www.rt.com/usa/313806-monsanto-roundup-kidney-damage/> and the farmers are actually DOUSING their crops with the stuff because the bugs the GMOs originally fended off by forcing the properties of another seed have become resistant to the built-in insecticide and the weeds have become resistant to the glyphosate. You only needed a little bit of glyphosate at the beginning, now you need more and more to the point that they're now considering using a variation of Agent Orange (glyphosate is actually one half of Agent Orange) to use on the food. If you see that as fine, great. Your health is not as important to me as my own is. However... ... being doused in so many pesticides and insecticides coupled with the fact that the ground these seeds grow are fertilized with chemicals rather than vitamin and mineral-rich manure or food waste has made it impossible for that soil to grow _anything_. That's why a lot of lands in Argentina - which has grown GMOs for years - are now barren and people need to stay as far away from them as possible because they cause cancer and birth defects.
