OK, so if you're going to say that physicists don't understand relative 
speed, even though it's their concept, I suppose nobody is going to stop 
you.

But let's consider a few cases.

Case 1: (This is the case you mentioned)
You and I are standing on the street. Our relative speed is zero. Now 
you start walking. Now there is a relative speed, due to your walking.

Case 2:
You and I are walking along the street together. Our relative speed is 
zero. Now you stop walking. Now there is a relative speed, but I'm the 
one walking and I didn't change anything.

Case 3: You and I are accelerating in neighboring cars, side by side. 
Our relative speed is zero. Now when I get to 40 mph, I stop 
accelerating and continue at constant speed of 40 mph, while you keep 
accelerating. Now there is a relative motion between us. I'm still 
moving, you're still moving.

Case 4: You and I are accelerating in neighboring cars, side by side. 
Our relative speed is zero. Now I press on the gas and accelerate 
faster. Now there is relative motion between us. We're both still 
moving, and in fact still accelerating.

Case 5: You and I are both walking side by side. Our relative speed is 
zero. Now I turn left, still walking at the same speed. Now there is 
relative speed between us. We're still both walking at the same speed as 
before, but there's now relative speed too.

So it's interesting to notice that there are lots of ways to produce 
relative motion, including lots of ways you didn't think of. There are 
many others.
