We sold our house and moved last summer. We put our house up on the market 
and probably 60% of the people looking at it were Muslim. (30% Asian and 10% 
Caucasian.)

The first people who looked at the house were Muslim and they went through 
the entire house. The entire time they were busy doing something on their 
iPhone.

The next family was also Muslim. They went through the house and the wife 
kept pulling out her iPhone and running some app. After they left I asked 
the realtor WTF is going on.

She said that they're using the compass or an app that shows them the 
orientation of the house and which walls and windows face Mecca. This blew 
my mind. When we went through a house we were 100% busy with the actual 
house and structure. These people sort-of paid attention to the house but 
were very interested in what direction the windows were facing.

The front of our house faced south and the back faced north where the back 
porches would get some shade in the summer. This means that the end/corner 
of the house was facing Mecca which isn't good.

But technology had a solution. It turns out that there's this thing called 
"Qiblah" which is how Muslims find the direction to pray in. The "old 
school" method is to pray directly towards Mecca which isn't in good 
alignment with our house.

The new modern Qiblah is to use the great circle computation where the 
shortest path to Mecca is actually over the north pole. Some Muslims believe 
this is the orientation they should be using and we had a fantastic room 
with lots of huge glass windows facing that direction.
