If the water turned into steam, then that would certainly expand and blow the radiator cap, but how does the coolant expand before the radiator cap blows when the coolant is still liquid? I'm not even sure what that means. You can apply pressure to water at 4 °C and it will freeze. Apply enough pressure and ice will form at room temperature. If you read the right books, water will form ice (9) at room temperature and standard pressure. -- Rick
