Answering that would require understanding the TIFF format, which
I don't, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

If the value represents the size of an image, then it's reasonable
to assume that an image file won't be over a quadrillion pixels
across -- or over a quadrillion pixels total, or over a quadrillion
bytes or bits in size.  If it represents the distance in meters
to an object in the image, such a limit would exclude photos of
any objects outside the solar system.  I don't know what kind of
metadata are included.

I *think* you picked 2^50 as an arbitrary limit, so that no
plausible image would be that big.  I think some others are assuming
it there's a specific reason you chose that particular value.
