OK both on News not being affected. Thanks.

One thing I thought of is that the maximum size of the Mail folders has 
been exceeded. I've tried deleting a lot of stuff, and doing a database 
rebuild, but no change. Next I'll try the laptops to see if TP still 
Mail works on them (although the databases will be very old).
