Auch damals schon war Sparen von Teilen vs. Investieren von Hirnschmalz den Weg den deutsche Hersteller gegangen sind, um unter den hiesien Bedingungen einigermaßen bezahlbare Empfänger produzieren zu können. Und das Zeugs sollte qualitativ hochwertig sein, also lange halten. Bei den Amis war die Kaufkraft in den späten 1940ern und 1950er Jahren ein Vielfaches der unsrigen. Und in den Fernsehgeräten die Leistungsstufen vereinfachen sollte. Röhren sind hochohmige Bauelemente, die profitieren von höheren Betriebsspannungen weit mehr als von höheren Betriebsströmen. Ein Durchbruch selbst war die Erfindung der Boosterschaltung zur Nutzung der Energie des Magnetfeldes in den Zeilenablenkspulen.
