The version supplied with OS 10.3 is quite good.  The one with OS 10.4
seems to be ok, but I haven't used it much.  The one with 10.5 deletes
messages at times when switching windows via Command-`.  It does not
move them to the trash, it just completely whacks them, including the
copy on an IMAP server.  It also takes two Command-0 commands to open
the Activity window (or clicking its menu entry twice), where one is
supposed to do it.

For that matter, OS 10.5 is seriously bug-ridden.  People with PPC
computers would, on the whole, be better off running 10.4.

In the way of just annoying crap, to select what you want to search on
with the 10.3 user agent, you can just click on the little disclosure
triangle next to the magnifying glass in the search string entry box.
With the 10.5 version, you have to type in at least two characters
first, then a menu of choices will appear below.  Lame.  The disclosure
triangle is gone.  This sort of stuff does not bode well for later
versions of Mail.

Thunderbird seems in general to be much better, but it does not make
it easy to sync just one mail account, while leaving all the others
alone.  Of course, if you only have one account, or don't care about
this, it is a better choice.
