Browser haben den großen Nachteil, dass sie neben eMail zu einem ziemlichen
Einfallstor für Malware geworden sind. Aber ansonsten hast Du recht, ja.

Äh.
Mal ultrakurz zusammengefasst: Das was "man" von Browsern kennt, nämlich ein
Formular lokal auf dem Client (aka Terminal) darzustellen, was der User dann
komplett ohne Zutun des Hosts (aka Webservers) ausfüllt und dann in einem
Rutsch zurückschickt an den Host zum drauf rumkauen, das ist die Essenz von
3270 und 5250 (als IBM-Äquivalent zum zeichenbasierten VT100).
Das ist keine "man tippt unten Kommandos und oben scrollt es"-Oberfläche. Wenn
man das Oberfläche nennen mag. ;-)
Das Terminal bekommt vom Host den statischen Text und Ein-/Ausgabefelder mit
entsprechenden Flags übermittelt. Der Host baut bei passender Ausgestaltung
des Formulars dieses das so zusammen, dass zumindest bei 5250 sogar eine rein
lokale grobe Vorvalidierung anhand Zeichenklassen ("hier nur Ziffern") der
Eingaben vorgenommen werden kann.
Da es tatsächlich nur Text ist, wäre das sogar mehr als Barrierefrei, aber
zumindest in 5250-Client-Welt ist das Thema Barrierefreiheit noch nicht
angekommen. Das kann man der Plattform an sich auch nur in Teilen anlasten.
