That is no proof! I too know you can remove all drives and Ubuntu Live 
will indeed run. I know this as a fact because I do this all of the 
time. I also know Ubuntu Live will scan all hard drives and will grab a 
Linux partition first to use for a swap file. If none is not found, it 
looks for a Windows one.

After a year of research why Ubuntu Live does this, I found out that it 
is an option when you compile Linux. So it is the guy that compiles 
Ubuntu Live that causes this problem. I also had Puppy Linux and tested 
this too. And no, it left the Windows partition alone. So not all 
distros are created equal.
