And, as Keith has pointed out, Annex J.2 is an informative listing of
the circumstances under which behavior is undefined. One of those items
says:
"An array subscript is out of range, even if an object is apparently
accessible with the given subscript (as in the lvalue expression a[1][7]
given the declaration int a[4][5]) (6.5.6)."
While Annex J is only informative, it is consistent with and can be
derived from the normative text of 6.5.6, and makes it clear that it was
intended to be interpreted in this fashions.
