You know exactly what you get with open source operating systems like 
Linux and BSD, as you get also access to the source code.
On the other hand with closed source operating systems as microsoft 
windows and apples macos you don't know what you get as you do not have 
the possibility to see what the binaries do, you have to trust that they 
do what they say they do and not spy on you or install malware (this has 
happen with microsoft windows, install CD's had malware installed).

Don't listen to Balmer, Trump, and Ekre that is guys who only can tell lies.
