You're overlooking that fact that even captive cockatoos still have a 
much higher metabolic rate than humans, but can live just as long. The 
lower life expectancy of the wild ones probably has more to do with the 
problems associated with aging which are fatal in the wild, but 
manageable in captivity. "Wild" humans don't do so well either.
