Thx, james, I see the difference now: $ make cprog make: *** No rule to make target `cprog'. Stop. This is the linux side. The windows side was much more interesting, but I failed to capture output. Since github is such a widely-used resource for promoting open source projects held together by the glue of C, I'm gonna still claim relevance to this newsgroup until I get a few things ironed out. I'm happy to follow suggestions to better places to talk about this. For example email list discussion, never done that before.... > > Alternatively, you could simply execute the command line that I quoted > which was generated and executed by make. I can always make it happen with actual keystrokes, if my compiler is listening. He encouraged me to make myself as comfortable in my development environment as I could. When the divisions that would segregate the internet blew through clc, I retreated to fortran, the language of my instruction. Nothing in a fortran module gets off the ground without a C binding. I watched as the languages defined that coupling, which was awesome, and now I want to gain access to fortran programs by means of C. C is to be the caller, but it has to be informed about where it is. $ perl config4.pl signal #17 = CHLD SIGALRM is 14 $ Is SIGALRM something defined in the contemporary C standard? -- Cal
