You use the word "repo."

$ pwd

$ cd island/
$ ls
baseline_mod_times.txt  cprog1.c  README
$ cc cprog1.c   -o cprog1
$ ./cprog1
Reading this line implies execution of c source initiated by perl.

wow, well the output is false, but I have new island. I think of C as a
stygian witch who needed a child syntax like perl to tell her where she
is. But where's the compilers around here?

It's primarily a perl learning exercise. Of course, perl can't get out
of bed without C, so there is that connection, some say a child
syntax...I'll try to leave those esoteric scraps for downthread after
I've gotten a couple more useful things done.

You seem to know github. Have I already compromised the integrity of
this 3-hr tour by posting on usenet real values for:

$ git config --global user.name "snip"
$ git config --global user.email "snip"@snip.snip"

My thoughts were that these values were a minimum to provide to ask for
collaboration. I have a config.pm file to house passwords to accompany
these values on my local machine, so every revision has been kicking my
rear in this direction. Furthermore, I created the gmail account for
this purpose, but it *does* run on my system, or else it's no use to me.

I wonder how my perl script would tell me where C compilers are on my
system, whatever the heck that is for this 15 minutes.
