Pretty sure it was a Tom Swft Junior because I was just learning to
read and there was an exciting illustration of Tom's ship "The Sky Queen"
raking the ground with it's belly thrusters to deal with some sort
of menace.

At elementary school, I think I wore out _Space Cadet_ & _Raiders From The
Rings_.  ANd I did read _The Runaway Robot_, of course.

But you could also certainly ask "what is SF", because: Dr Seuss.
